Can I register for ebay without a credit card?

Hello,
I went through the process of registering with ebay and it seemed to go well until I attempted to bid on an item. I received a message stating that I had to enter a credit card number in order to bid on an item, however, I don't own a credit card. Is it possible to somehow register with ebay without using a credit card? If not, can someone tell me which popular auction sites allow users to register without one? Thanks!
